About
okraWe are a Texas non-profit market.

The mission of the Bastrop 1832 Farmers Market is to provide Bastrop, Texas and the surrounding region with locally grown foods and farm products in a direct farm-to-consumer marketing venue that will serve diverse populations, preserve and promote region agriculture and improve the quality of life in the greater Bastrop area. The market is situated on land leased to the market by the City of Bastrop for a nominal amount.

The Bastrop 1832 Farmers Market provides a market designed for farmers and artisans, including those who are economically disadvantaged, to sell their farm and ranch products, crafts, ready-to-eat foods and other homemade products. In this manner, the Bastrop 1832 Farmers Market improves access to local, healthy, affordable food for children and adults around the Bastrop area while assisting family farmers and ranchers to create a local, sustainable agricultural economy. The Bastrop 1832 Farmers Market also supports local food banks to ensure that the needy have access to the same healthy food. Furthermore, Bastrop 1832 Farmers Market provides education about and support of the region's agriculture and teaches young people how to grow and sell food. Finally, the Bastrop 1832 Farmers Market intends to contribute excess funds raised to other local, tax-exempt charities, such as groups assisting abused women and children and 4-H clubs.

The Bastrop 1832 Farmers Market is now accepting WIC coupons (July 23, 2008).
